Tips for making ooey gooey Chex mix

  • Spray your bowl: Before adding in your mix it makes it easier to spray the bowl with a non-stick cooking spray since it does get a little sticky and messy.
  • Large bowl is best: The bigger the bowl the better! Start off by using a large bowl when making this ooey gooey Chex mix. It may get messy when stirring and combining.
  • Use two bowls: If you do not have a large bowl, simply split the Chex mix recipe into two bowls.
  • Stir constantly: When you are boiling the sugar mixture, stir constantly so it does not burn. This mixture does burn easily.
  • Boiling over: The sugar mixture tends to boil over, simply turn down the heat a little bit once you start to see if rise quickly.
  • Wooden spoon: I have learned that a wooden spoon is the key to sticky, ooey gooey recipes. It is easier to work with a special trick!
  • Coconut: some people don’t love coconut, simply leave it out if there is a dislike to it.

Storing ooey gooey Chex mix

This is a great make-ahead recipe that everyone loves!

  • Storing ooey gooey Chex mix: this ooey gooey Chex mix is great stored in an airtight container or ziplock bag. It will last about 1 week stored at room temperature.
  • Can you freeze ooey gooey Chex mix? If you need to. This is not the best snack to freeze. It is best made fresh and ready to go!
  • Do you need to refrigerate ooey gooey Chex mix? No, this is a great treat and snack to have at room temperature. If you need to refrigerate it, it will become hard and not be able to pull apart as easily. Just set out at room temperature over night until it is easy to pull apart again.

WOW! This is amazing, calling it crack makes me laugh. But spot on No one can keep their fingers out of the bag. Including myself. If you use your imagination the possibilities are endless. Been enjoying it for acouple years now.

  4. I think you intended to say “white caramel”, but it says “white chocolate” in both the heading description and the recipe area. 😉

Came to share the same. It’s delicious, and we make this every year! But this is defiantly not a “white chocolate” recipe. 😀

  5. I just made this and can’t keep my hands out of it while it cools! Instead of Golden Grahams, I used chocolate Chex, along with the corn Chex and its DELICIOUS! I will share this if there’s any left!?

I love the sweet and savory combination of this recipe. I might add that you could use more natural ingredients instead of corn syrup and vanilla extract to enhance the flavor. I would be curious to see the recipe with a homemade granola mix instead as well. Overall, it was very tasty, and it is perfect for get-togethers.

  7. I tried to bag it up a day before Christmas it was horrible soft cereal and very disappointed threw it all away. 🙁

  8. This was delicious. A huge hit at our New Years party. I Used big flake coconut and mixed nuts. Net time I may sprinkle with sea salt. Thank you for sharing!

      1. I made the ooey gooey chex mix its delicious but I wanted to know if it stays gooey, I was hoping to bag for gifts. Thank you.

  9. i made this for Christmas gifts this morning and boy does it live up to its name: Christmas “crack!” I can’t believe this recipe hasn’t gone viral on Pinterest yet! EXCELLENT! The only change I made was to add 1 tablespoon to the cooled syrup. Yum! Thanks for a new Christmas tradition!!!
