Garlic Parmesan Air Fryer Mushrooms Recipe

Nothing complements a hearty dinner quite like mushrooms do. They are so tender, meaty, and flavorful! That’s why they’re so popular served with steak! It’s the perfect combination. Getting steakhouse-worthy veggies can be tricky though. Especially if you’re short on time!

That’s where the air fryer comes in! With an air fryer, you can get perfectly cooked veggies in minutes! And did I mention how mouthwatering and tender they are?! You’re going to love this easy air fryer mushrooms recipe. I’ve added in a super easy sauce made with soy sauce, garlic, and parmesan for you to toss them in. It gives each bite the juiciest, savory flavor! Let’s get cooking!

Everything Needed to Make the Best Air Fryer Mushrooms

You only need a handful of ingredients to make this mushroom lover’s dream! These simple ingredients help enhance and tenderize the mushrooms perfectly! You can find all measurements in the recipe card at the end of the post.

  • Mushrooms: I used white button mushrooms, but you can switch these out for your favorite type of mushrooms! Cremini and portobello work great, too, but you may need to add a minute or two to the cooking time since portobello mushrooms are so big.
  • Olive Oil: Adds moisture and helps your mushrooms sizzle up to perfection!
  • Soy Sauce: Makes the mushrooms nice and tender and adds savory flavor.
  • Parmesan Cheese: Nothing complements garlic and fresh herbs as well as grated parmesan! It’s a flavor match made in heaven.
  • Seasonings: I used garlic powder, fresh thyme, and salt and pepper for the best savory flavor in each bite! Don’t skip the thyme- it adds amazing aromatics and a woodsy flavor that really takes the flavor of these air fryer mushrooms to the next level.

How to Cook Mushrooms in the Air Fryer

This is the perfect way to cook mushrooms! No sauteeing, no mess. It’s so easy and they turn out absolutely delicious every time!

  1. Clean Mushrooms: Clean your mushrooms with water to make sure they’re free of any dirt. Pat dry.
  2. Combine All Ingredients: In a bowl add the mushrooms, oil, soy sauce, parmesan, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together.
  3. Air Fry: Add to your air fryer basket. Cook at 380 degrees F for 5 mins.
  4. Shake Basket, Air Fry Again: Shake the basket and then cook for another 5-7 minutes or until tender.

Tips For Cooking Mushrooms in the Air Fryer

These tips may seem like a no-brainer, but they’re super important when cooking vegetables in the air fryer!

  • Cook a Single Layer at a Time: Airflow is crucial when cooking anything in your air fryer, but especially for vegetables. Only cook a single layer of mushrooms at a time and make sure there’s enough space in between the pieces that they can be cooked through completely.
  • Don’t Forget to Shake: Shaking your basket halfway through the cooking time helps make sure your mushrooms are cooked evenly. This will keep your mushrooms from being soggy or undercooked.

Storing Leftovers

These are really yummy but they are salty. Next time I’ll make them with lower-salt tamari and not add the extra salt. Have to remember that the parmesan is also salty. Hubby really loved them! These are going into my regular side dish rotation.

These are AMAZING!!! I’ve made them many times, and in fact am making them for dinner tonight with some parmesan baked pork chops!

    THANK YOU!!

I made this recipe tonight and it was very good! My husband and son said that this recipe was a keeper! Thank you

These were delicious! I do want to give feedback in regards to the olive oil.
Extra virgin oil has a low smoke point and should NOT be used in the air fryer. If used, the air fryer puts out a lot of smoke! Perhaps lite olive oil can be suggested, or another oil all together.

These were fantastic. However, next time I’m going to omit the salt and lower the soy sauce. They were very salty between the 3 salty ingredients.

  6. Really yummy however next time I will eliminate the salt since I use regular soy sauce. Sometimes I follow recipes like a robot… didn’t really think about the salt in soy sauce🤪😁✌🏼

Was Very Good! Will definitely be making again. Seemed like a lot of mushrooms at first but after cooking down just right for 2 to 4 people as a side.

Way too salty. You don’t need any salt and take it easy on the soy sauce. Mine were very wet and had to dab the excess moisture out of the mess with a paper towel. Like others have said these looked nothing like the picture. My wife tasted one and said YUK. She didn’t eat any more and I won’t be making these again.

I left out the salt, but this was still very very salty between the soy and Parmesan. These were also INCREDIBLY wet. At the 5 minute mark, I drained away all of the oil/soy sauce/excess mushroom moisture. My fimished mushrooms looked nothing like the pictured finished product.

  10. We are huge mushroom lovers at our house. We are watching calories and carbs. 111 kcal. Confused. What is kcal?

    1. Kilocalories are actually the correct term for what we tend to call “calories”. (I’m a retired science teacher, so I hope this makes sense.) Yes, you’ve been misled! Although this was certainly covered in your high school chemistry class. In the USA, whenever we talk about calories in our food, or calories that we consume during activity (“working off 300 calories”, etc) what we are really TECHNICALLY talking about are KILOcalories. Kilo = 1,000. Somewhere along the line, it was decided to shorten the terminology for convenience so that the “kilo” would be left off, and we would just say “calories” instead for both calories consumed, and calories used during activity. So yes, the terminology that we use is technically incorrect! For example, a cookie that has 200 calories cookie really has 200 KILOcalories or 200 X 1000 = 20,000 calories! The good news is that when you are working off 300 calories, you are actually working off 300 KILOcalories, or 300 X 1,000 = 30,000 calories. I believe in Europe they still use the correct terms, that is, kilocalories. Anyway, just disregard the “kilo” part and you will get the “calories” in the dish in US terms.

This is very delicious but overwhelmingly salty. I topped my hamburger with them but having sampled the mushrooms decided to not salt the burger. Next time I’ll leave the salt out of the mushrooms and use only 1 tbs. Low sodium soy.

    1. I haven’t tried that before but that sounds like it would work! Just be sure to watch them to make sure they don’t cook too quickly and get burned on that setting.

  12. First time I made this dish. I split all the ingredients in half to match the mushrooms. The only recommendation I would make would be to not add the salt at all! The soy sauce will provide enough salt flavor to the mushrooms.
