Hey there! This is Richa from My Food Story and today I have these delicious creamy cajun chicken meatballs for you. These things are legit if you like meatballs and everything creamy. We are talking about some serious comfort food.

Let’s just say that I have made these at least three times in the last week and there have been no complaints. And no leftovers because the pan is wiped clean by the end of the meal.

This is a real deal one pan recipe. We start by making these delicious meatballs which are seasoned with garlic and cajun spice, and then they are simmered in a super creamy sauce. These meatballs are chicken so they cook pretty fast and the parmesan and breadcrumbs in them keeps them nice and moist.

Close up on cooked meatballs.

You can easily swap out the chicken for beef or pork if you prefer read meat but I don’t think you’ll miss it. Because these meatballs have a ton of flavour and after simmering in the sauce for about 15 minutes, they’ve absorbed all the juices and are perfect.

This recipe makes a big batch – at least 18-20 meatballs so that you can feed a family of five. And if you have leftovers, which we don’t, just add a dash of milk or water while reheating them for the perfect gravy again.

We love eating these with egg noodles or even garlic bread because when you are dipping into that perfect sauce, there is no holding back. You can make the meatballs ahead so that at dinner time, all you need to do is make the sauce and simmer them for a bit.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Servings: 20 meatballs

Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

For the Sauce:

Instructions

  • In a bowl mix together all the ingredients for the meatballs except oil till just combined. Form them into approximately 18 meatballs.
  • Heat olive oil in a pan and add the meatballs to the pan. Do not overcrowd the pan and if its not large enough, cook the meatballs in batches. Brown the meatballs on all sides and remove them on a plate.
  • To start making the sauce, heat olive oil and butter in the same pan and add garlic and onions. Saute for 2-3 minutes and add the flour. Cook the flour for a minute or two to cook it so that it doesn't taste raw. Slowly add the chicken broth and keep whisking continuously till the sauce thickens.
  • Add the cajun seasoning, paprika, salt, pepper and the meatballs. Simmer the meatballs for 10 minutes till they are cooked through.
  • Mix in the heavy cream and turn off the flame. Serve hot.

So tasty and easy! I paired this with roasted sweet potato, broccolini and asparagus and it was honestly such a treat. Found this recipe on a whim and had to substitute sour cream instead for the heavy cream, was a little nervous about how it would turn out but it’s like this recipe was also made for sour cream! Thanks so much and will be turning this into a stable for weeknight dinners (:

These were delicious!! I wanted to cook an easy but impressive meal for my hubby (who’s a chef lol) and he requested meatballs. I didn’t want anything italian or pasta so I was stoked when I found this. I won’t lie….we started cooking late so he ended up taking over searing the meatballs and I think a good sear is what made them so good. We didn’t have cajun, but creole seasoning but it’s very similar so we used that. Served over mashed potatoes and with asparagus and it was perfect! Thanks for this dish inspiration!! This will definitely get added to our list!

I subbed beef for chicken when i made these. We all enjoyed the texture, the crispness of the outside, the flavor and seasoning. Well most of the seasoning. The 2 tbsp of Cajun seasoning was waay to salty. I thought I made a mistake in measuring so I did another batch the next day. Overall with the potatoes I served them over I thought they were delicious but over salty. What could I have done wrong.

This is so good! The meatballs were super moist and tender and the sauce was rich tasting without being too heavy (though I did sub whole milk for heavy cream because it’s what I had on hand). The only thing I’d change is swapping the raw garlic in the meatballs for garlic powder. I love me some garlic but it tasted a bit raw in the meatballs.

    1. That sounds great! I am so happy that you liked it! Thanks so much for sharing and following along with me! XOXO

    1. It is great by itself but you are always welcome to have a green salad or pasta or rice! Some of our favorite things to do. Even have some breadsticks for dipping in the sauce. Hope that helps! XOXO

  5. These Cajun chicken meatballs look absolutely delicious. We too are a family of five, so this recipe is perfect. Pinned!
