Hot Ham and Swiss Pinwheels

We always make these hot pinwheels at our house. They are so easy to make and you can easily switch them up to make them taste different every time! We have stuffed them with pepperoni and made pizza pinwheels, but our favorite variation is these hot ham and Swiss pinwheels.

You can’t beat the classic ham and melty Swiss cheese combo. Whether you’re hosting a party, planning a picnic, or simply looking to treat yourself, these pinwheels are sure to impress. They make a fantastic appetizer or snack that will have everyone reaching for seconds and thirds,

Ingredients in Pinwheels

These simple ingredients are something that you can always have on hand. Then you can whip these up for a delicious meal or snack anytime! Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact measurements.

  • Crescent Roll Dough: This is what makes these pinwheels so easy!
  • Dijon Mustard: This is spread onto the crescent roll and adds a yummy taste.
  • Deli Ham: Get ham that is already sliced.
  • Sliced Swiss Cheese: Ham and cheese is a classic combo.
  • Butter: I used unsalted butter in this recipe.
  • Worcestershire Sauce: This adds in a tangy and delicious flavor.
  • Garlic Powder: I love adding garlic to the butter sauce!
  • Fresh Parsley: Chop up fresh parsley and garnish the top of these pinwheels for an added touch.
  • Poppy Seeds: These go in the garlic butter sauce.

How to Make Hot Ham and Swiss Pinwheels

In just 13-15 minutes, these Ham and Cheese Pinwheels emerge, crispy on the outside and oh-so-melty on the inside. They are a must try!

  1. Prep dough: Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease an 8×8 inch pan. Start by unrolling your croissant dough and divide it into 4 sections. Pinch the seams to seal.
  2. Add ham and cheese: Spread about 1 heaping teaspoon of dijon mustard on top. Add 2 slices of Swiss cheese and smoked ham on top. Roll up each rectangle and seal the seam.
  3. Brush with butter and bake: Cut each roll into 3-4 slices. Place on a greased 8×8-inch pan. Add melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, parsley, and poppy seeds in a small bowl. Brush on top of the pinwheels. Bake for 13-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Ingredients 

  • 1 tube crescent roll dough 8 ounce
  • 2 Tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 pound sliced deli ham
  • 8 ounce sliced swiss cheese
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1/2 Tablespoon Worchestershire Sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 Tablespoons fresh parsley minced
  • 1 teaspoon poppyseeds

Instructions

  1. Oh darn, now because of the reviews I am afraid to try this recipe. How do we avoid the under cooked dough?

    The inside parts of the crescent dough did not cook at all, while the outside over baked because I kept adding time for the inside to bake. Maybe use the jumbo size crescents and separate them before baking? Don’t think I’ll be making these again.

    I’m a HUGE fan of these. So easy and sooooo yummy. But they do take MUCH longer to cook. Usually I have to add about 15-20 minutes, but they are so worth the wait.

    These were good, but it took 35 minutes to bake. We also bumped the temperature to 400 after 20 minutes to try to get them cooked.

    These were absolutely delicious, I made them already once this year, and I’m planning on making them this weekend to be served with tomato bisque. And they are so easy to make. The only problems I encountered were my own silly fault. I didn’t have Worcestershire Sauce when I made them and thought, oh hey we use soy and that interchangeably on burgers, that means it’ll be fine. No, don’t sub out soy! I made it a little too salty by doing that, Worcestershire wouldn’t do that. Also, I didn’t roll my pinwheels quite tight enough, but this time I’ll know better! Can’t wait to try these again, with the right sauce this time. XD I’m sure they’ll be a hit with the family. Gonna have to at least double or triple the recipe probably though. Wish me luck.

    I tried this recipe and it tastes great! But one problem I had is the pinwheels got pretty flat after cooking. They never looked as “straight” and strong as the pictures on this website. I wonder if there are missing secrets or notes in this recipe. (I tried to seal the bottom of the pinwheels with the idea that cheese won’t melt and leak out to lead them to be flat, but it didn’t help that much.)
