In a large bowl combine 1 ½ cups creamy peanut butter, 1 cup unsalted butter, 6 cups powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix using an electric hand mixer until it forms a dough.
Roll into 1 inch balls and place onto a waxed paper-lined cookie sheet. Freeze until firm, about 20-30 minutes.
Place 4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips into a large microwave-safe bowl. Melt in the microwave stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.
Press a toothpick into the top of each ball and dip each ball into the chocolate. Drizzle the tops with melted chocolate and sprinkle with sea salt if desired.
