Hi it’s Tiffany from Creme de la Crumb, can you believe it’s February?! What is going on here?? Valentines Day is practically here and I haven’t made a single batch of sugar cookies or found a gift for my special someone. However, I have made a really delicious dessert that I think would top even the biggest heart-shaped box of chocolates you could get your hands on and I’m going to share it with you today!

A slice of Browned Butter Banana Cake with Brown Sugar Frosting on a white plate.

This Browned Butter Banana Cake is one of my favorite cake recipes! I can’t stand bananas plain, but I’ll eat them in cookies, bread, and this cake. It’s incredibly moist and sweet, and the browned butter takes the flavor to a whole new level of delicious. Top that with a perfect and simple brown sugar frosting and you’re in banana cake heaven!

Ingredients

Brown sugar frosting:

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a 9x13-inch pan heavily with cooking spray.
  • In a small saucepan melt the 3 tablespoons of butter over medium heat, stirring continually until butter begins to brown, it will froth first then turn brown and have a strong nutty aroma.
  • Remove the browned butter from the heat, and transfer it to a large bowl. Add brown sugar, honey, mashed bananas, and vanilla, and mix well. Stir in the buttermilk, eggs, and oil.
  • In another bowl whisk the flour, salt, and baking soda. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and stir until incorporated.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35-45 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely.
  • Prepare the frosting. Using a hand mixer, whisk the sugar, brown sugar, and butter until smooth. Add the milk and vanilla. (Add just enough milk so that the frosting comes together and is spreadable)
  • Spread the frosting on the cooled cake. Let the frosting set before slicing and serving. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

  1. The cake was delicious. The frosting would have been better if it was cooked because it turned out gritty from the brown sugar. I will make again, but with a cooked version of the frosting.

    1. I noticed that too, but it didn’t really matter that much to us. Next time, though, i think i’m going to try cream cheese frosting. it was my husband’s idea cause he thought it was too sweet for ‘daily consumption’ for him, but he loved it, i’m telling ya,, ๐Ÿ™‚
