  3. Cake Mix: Sprinkle the cake mixture evenly over the apple pie filling.
  4. Butter & Bake: Place pieces of salted butter on top of the cake mixture, then bake for 50-60 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. Serve the apple dump cake warm with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.

  1. Hi there!
I was looking at your “dump cakes” which look amazing and I thought would be a nice change from apple crumble!
I know the recipe is supposed to be simple, but how could I substitute the cake mix and I would like the cake to be diabetic friendly. Am I back to using my standard crumble mix?
Was also thinking of using fresh apples for Rosh Hashanah! Any additional suggestions?
    Many thanks.

    1. Iโ€™m so glad youโ€™re excited about the dump cakes! Iโ€™m sorry, I’m not an expert in diabetic-friendly cooking, so Iโ€™d recommend checking a trusted diabetic recipe resource to make sure any swaps are safe and work well. A crumble topping you already love could be a great option, and fresh apples for Rosh Hashanah sound absolutely delicious!

This cake turned out so lousy….the top did not bake with the bottom and stayed on top. So I just mixed it all together and put it back in the oven for about 15 minutes more. I believe the cake mix should have been on the bottom of the pan and the rest of the ingredients on the top of the cake. Put the butter melted into the cake.

    1. Hello Patricia , sorry your Apple pie dump cake didnโ€™t turn out like you expected. The yellow cake and the cinnamon and pecans mixed together is put on top of the apple pie filling then just add the butter pieces on the top and bake it . The cake mixture is meant too be on the top as it is an Apple Crisp . Please try again and please let me know as I am going too try this recipe, Thank You and stay safe always, Deeโค๏ธ

  3. For the Peach dump cake recipe, when using fresh peaches the tip suggested making a simple syrup from sugar/water. This recipe omits that suggestion for fresh apples. Is that correct? Oh well, we are going to find out.

  4. I love this recipe! This time I used a spice cake mix in place of the yellow cake mix and it was wonderful. Thank you for sharing this recipe!!
