How to make Skillet Pork Chops with Maple Dijon Vegetables

Sautรฉing pork chops on your stovetop is a quick and easy way to have dinner ready in minutes.

Just a small amount of olive oil in a pan and plenty of stirring allows meat to cook evenly.

This will leave a nice caramelized flavoring that can be used as a base in simple reduction sauces.

  • Cook the pork:ย In a large skillet, add 1 tablespoon olive oil. Add the sliced pork and cookย through. Remove and set aside on a plate.
  • Sautรฉย the vegetables:ย Add 2 tbsp olive oil. Add Brussels sprouts, sweet potato, and baby potatoes. Sautรฉ until almost fork tender.
  • Whisk together maple dijonย sauce:ย In a small bowl, whisk together the dijon mustard, maple syrup, and apple cider vinegar. Pour on top of the vegetables. Add the pork back into the skillet and heat throughout.

Knowing when you pork is done:

Knowing when pork is at its tender best is easier than you think. All you need is a meat thermometer.

Because for most pork cuts, an internal temperature of 145หšF ensures that youโ€™ll have perfectly cooked pork that is tender and juicy, and not dry.

Take a look at this video and youโ€™ll learn that just like steak, itโ€™s okay if your pork is pink on the inside.

The National Pork Board recommends cooking chops, roasts, loins, and tenderloin to an internal temperature of 145ยฐ F, followed by a three-minute rest.

  • Medium – Rare: 145 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Medium:ย 150 to 155 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Medium – Well:ย 155 to 160 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Well:ย 160 degrees Fahrenheit

Tips for making Skillet Pork Chops with Maple Dijon Vegetables

With these tips you will be sure to have the perfect cooking experience and know just what you need to do to ensure the perfect meal!

  • Pork needs to be at roomย temperature:ย Remove meat from the refrigerator and allow it to come to near room temperature. Cold food reduces the temperature of the pan and corrupts the process.
  • Pan to use whenย sautรฉing:ย A shallow, flat-bottomed pan or skillet and a pair of tongs are a must. Choose a pan that is about 2 to 3 quarts and designed with a wide, flat 8- or 9-inch bottom. This provides room in the pan to avoid overcrowding the ingredients and promotes even cooking.
  • Cut pork and vegetables:ย Uniformly cut ingredients for even cooking.
  • Keep it moving:ย Pro chefs are constantly tossing their ingredients in the air, but you can keep yours moving with a pair of tongs.
  • Meat Thermometer:ย There are many types of meat thermometers to choose from. Make things really easy with a digital thermometer with an alarm. Insert the probe into the thickest part of the meat, not touching bone. Set the end temperature alarm to 145หšF and it will beep when itโ€™s time to remove the meat from the oven.
  • Why does pork need to rest?ย Letting pork rest results in juicier meat. Thatโ€™s because juices rise to the surface during cooking. When pork stands, the juices can settle and return to the center. If you slice too soon, youโ€™ll allow the juices to run out, creating dry meat.

Storing Skillet Pork Chops with Maple Dijon Vegetables

It is always nice to have a couple options when storing left overs, cooking ahead or even meal prep.

This is a great recipe that has all three of those options.

Enjoy your pork now and later with these simple and safe steps.

  • Can you make skillet pork chops ahead ofย time? Yes! This is a great way to enjoy it through meal prep or later in the day. Simply follow the step by step directions, cool completely and place in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for 1 week. When ready to prepare, warm up on the skillet or in the oven for best results.
  • Can you freeze skillet pork chops? Yes, this pork freezes well and still has amazing flavoring when warmed up. Cook your meal as instructed and let cool completely. Once it is cooled place in a ziplock freezer bag and lay flat in the freezer. You can store for about 1 month. When ready to reheat place in the refrigerator over night to thaw or heat frozen in the oven.
