What You Need to Make Chinese Beef and Broccoli
I can’t wait for you to try this recipe, it’s delicious! Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for all of the exact measurements.
- Beef chuck roast:ย Boneless and sliced into thin strips before adding to the crockpot.
- Beef consomme or beef broth:ย Adds flavor and liquid and covers the meat while it cooks.
- Low sodium soy sauce:ย Adds a great salty flavor.
- Dark brown sugar:ย I love the sweetness from the rich molasses in the brown sugar.
- Sesame oil:ย Combine with soy sauce and broth to make the liquid to cook the beef.
- Garlic cloves:ย Minced garlic will add a pungent spice flavor.
- Cornstarch:ย Thickens the sauce.
- Frozen Broccoli Florets:ย About 3 cups (I used one 14 ounce bag)
- White or brown rice:ย This broccoli and beef is amazing served over cooked rice!
Do I Need To Thaw Frozen Broccoli?
You do not need to thaw it. Add it directly to the crock pot after you add in the cornstarch mixture and allow it to heat up for about 30 minutes.
Quick and Easy Steps to Make Beef and Broccoli
Making this recipe again today reminded me of how BOMB it is. Wow! The flavor is incredible. There is something about cooking this meat all day in the slow cooker that makes it so tender and melt in your mouth. It cooks perfectly and the flavor of the sauce is amazing.
- Whisk sauce:ย In a mixing bowl, whisk together the beef consume, soy sauce, dark brown sugar, sesame oil, and garlic.
- Add beef to Crockpot:ย Lay the beef strips in the crockpot and pour the sauce over, tossing the strips to coat.
- Cook:ย Turn the crockpot on low and cook for about 6 hours. Mine was ready at 5. You donโt want to cook the beef too long or it will start to shred.
- Make a slurry and add to crockpot:ย When it is just about done, take 4 Tbsp of the sauce and whisk it in a small bowl with the cornstarch. Slowly stir this into the crockpot.
- Add in broccoli and continue to cook:ย I added the broccoli right after the slurry so that it could get heated through. You want to let it cook an additional 30 minutes so that the sauce can thicken and frozen broccoli can cook. You donโt want to add the broccoli until the very end or it will be mushy.
- Serve:ย ย It is great alone or over white rice.ย Enjoy!!
How to Store Leftovers
This beef and broccoli makes great leftovers and can even be frozen and reheated later!
- In the Refrigerator: Allow it to cool completely before storing and do not leave out at room temperature longer than 2 hours.ย It will keep well if properly stored in an airtight container for 2-4 days in the refrigerator.
- In the Freezer: This slow cooker meal can be placed in an airtight container or ziplock bag (don’t forget to label it with the date!) and will last 2-4 months in the freezer.ย Thaw in the refrigerator overnight and then reheat over medium heat on the stove.

am anxious to try the recipe but wish you had a print button as I just wasted 9 pages of paper and ink for a 1 page recipe
Have you ever tried to copy and paste into Note Pad on computer then print? It will save you a lot of paper and ink.
Windows comes with a snipping tool that works great. You just draw a line around what you want to print. It will also send an email for you.
I just tasted a bit of the meat and it was amazing! I think I’m going to try adding some sautรฉed onions next time and serve it with some fresh bean sprouts for some texture.
Loved the Beef & Broccoli slow cooker recipe. Can’t wait to try it. I do wish you had mentioned the size (ounces) of the bag f broccoli in the recipe, but I will “wing it”. Looking forward to more of our recipes. Thank you. Jacque
how about with Chicken looking for a good chicken and broccoli recipe
I made this tonight using sirloin. Let me just say that it was fabulous!!!!!! Best beef and broccoli I’ve ever made! And so easy to do!! Will definitely make it again and SOON!!
Just made this tonight. It was fantastic. My husband loved it! Thanks.
We made this recently and it was wonderful. My only complaint was that the meat totally fell apart. Did I slice it too thinly or cook it too long? Should I try a different cut?
Made this tonight, doubled the recipe for the whole family. Was a hit with everyone but my critics suggested using a little less brown sugar next time. With the skyrocketing cost of beef lately i used the cheapest cut of meat i could get my hands on. With the long cook time even that came out fork tender.
I cannot wait to try this weekend!! My dad and boyfriend will love this, this is their favorite chinese dish. Is chuck post roast the same thing?
How many does this feed?
I would say about 4-6.
This looks fantastic, I will be trying it ASAP! My hubby doesn’t eat pork, so beef and broccoli is his favorite chinese meal. Can you tell me what size bag of frozen broccoli you use? I have seen small and big bags, so knowing what size bag (in ounces) that you used, would be really helpful. Thank you!
Made this for dinner tonight and it was AMAZING! This one is definitely getting added to the rotation ๐
This looks so good. I am pinning to try later ๐
Can I cook this recipe on High instead of Low for a quicker cooking time? How would you adjust? Cut time in half?
Yes cut the time in half. I try to always cook mine on low because sometimes cooking on a high temperature can dry the meat out. ๐
This is in my crockpot as I type this!!! It has the house smelling so good. I doubled the recipe. I used beef bullion cubes instead of beef broth! Added ground ginger and a lil garlic powder! Taste tested and it was wonderful!! I live by my crockpot now!!!
This is by far one of my all time favorites! Glad you liked it!
Add a bit of Freshly grated Ginger and you will be amazed at the ZING it adds!
