Asiago cheese. So many memories of my high school days come flooding back to me. My love for asiago cheese started in high school. I would go to Einstein Bagel every single day and get an Asiago Cheese Bagel for breakfast. The cheese on those bagels are the best part!

So naturally I needed to make a big batch of these rolls for myself. Again, I used my easy dough recipe. That recipe is awesome and can be used so many different ways! This dough worked perfectly for these rolls. The best part is that the rolls were ready in just 30 minutes! They were soft and fluffy on the inside and perfect on the outside with the cheese.

Can I just tell you how amazing these rolls turned out?? I could have probably eaten the entire batch if my kids would have let me. But instead, they grabbed them all as soon as they came out of the oven!

With the first bite, all of my high school memories came flooding back to me. The crazy bangs I had, all of my boyfriends, and my Dr. Martens. It was crazy how that asiago cheese could bring back so many memories! ๐Ÿ™‚

You guys are going to love these rolls. Fast. Easy. And so delicious with that wonderful cheese! You will make them again and again!

Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 12 minutes
Total Time: 42 minutes
Servings: 12 Rolls

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients:

  • 1ยฝ cups warm water
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. yeast
  • 3ยฝ cups flour
  • 1 tsp Salt

Egg Wash Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 4 oz Asiago Cheese shredded

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degree and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

To make the dough:

  • Mix warm water, sugar and yeast together. Let that sit for 5 minutes.
  • Add flour and salt to the water, sugar, and yeast. Mix this until smooth and let it raise for 10 minutes. I used my kitchenaid mixer with the dough hook and it was so easy and worked great!
  • Divide the dough into 12 sections. Roll each section into a ball and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Let rest for 10 minutes.
  • Whisk the egg and the milk in a small bowl. Brush on the top of each roll with the egg wash. Sprinkle generously with asiago cheese. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

  1. I made these for the first time and they were pretty straight forward, simple and everyone really liked them. I didnโ€™t read the comments until afterwards about adding in the additional cheese to the dough. The rolls did have enough flavor without it but since I had a 5oz container of it, it would be good way to use up the extra cheese. Iโ€™ll definitely add these to my โ€œmake againโ€ recipes. Thanks for sharing!

  2. 5 stars
These are easy and delicious. I added about 3 oz of cheese to the dough and made into 15 buns to account for the cheese volume.

I added 3oz of cheese to the dough. They were fabulous. I will make them into 15 or 16 next time because they got a little too big with the extra cheese. I was surprised by how quickly they came together. A keeper to make often!

  4. Hi Alyssa:

I am interested in baking both the “Soft and Buttery Buns” and the “30 Minute Asiago Cheese Rolls”.
Unfortunately, in your recipes, it doesn’t indicate which yeast I should be using. Would it be “Traditional Yeast” or “Instant Yeast”?
Please let me know. As you can tell, I am not a bread maker.
    Thanks,
    Sarah

    1. Hi Sarah! No worries. This is a great recipe to start with for beginner bakers. If you have to let the yeast “proof” in a recipe, you will be using a regular yeast and not instant. This recipe uses an active dry yeast. Hope this helps!

    1. Yes, I have not experimented with too many recipes that are gluten free. Let me know how it turns out!

  5. Made these gems tonight…the kids LOVED them. I threw some ham on top of some too…perfect addition to my youngest school lunchbox.

  6. I have never made bread successfully before, but made these for dinner and they were wonderful. I did as others suggested and added cheese to the dough and more on top because, who doesnโ€™t want more cheese? I feel very accomplished right now, I MADE BREAD!! And we could actually eat them.

Iโ€™m so excited Iโ€™m getting ready to try again

  7. Am I safe in assuming you’re using instant yeast and all-purpose flour? Just want to double check before making these – they look so good!

  8. definitely add cheese to the dough mixture, adds so much more flavour to the rolls themselves, but still top them with the cheese.

As for the cheese type, I have made this using Asiago, Parmesan, Old Cheddar, basically any good strong cheese works with this.

  9. Can this recipe be made on Saturday and baked on Easter Sunday or does it have to be baked the day you make up the dough. Please respond so I know when this has to be done. Thank you

  10. Being part Italian, my family loves carbs and cheese. These rolls are the perfect way to surprise my family as we usually buy bread at the store. The smell of the bread baking in the oven will cause them to run into the kitchen! I can’t wait to make these. ๐Ÿ™‚
