Reasons You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Easy to Make: This recipe only takes 5 minutes to make! You can have a delicious butter topping for rolls, bread, or pancakes in no time!
  • Simple Ingredients: There are only four items on the ingredient list, and they are pantry staples!
  • Flavor: The combination of sweet honey and salty butter with a pinch of cinnamon will have your taste buds tingling!

Ingredient List

Four pantry staples are all you need! Of course, you can always add any other flavor extracts or mix-ins that youโ€™d like. Customizing and taste testing is the fun part! Note: All measurements are on the recipe card at the end of the post.

  • Butter: Both salted and unsalted butter work! Youโ€™ll just need to adjust the additional salt you add, if any. Also- make sure your butter is softened slightly so it mixes together smoothly with the other ingredients.
  • Honey: Adds sweetness. Taste test as you go and add more honey if needed.
  • Ground Cinnamon: You don’t have to add this, but I think the spice makes the honey butter taste better overall.
  • A Pinch or Two of Salt: Optional if using salted butter. A little bit goes a long way and enhances the overall flavor of the honey butter.
All of the ingredients laid out before combining.

How to Make Honey Butter

Itโ€™s a super easy recipe and only takes a few minutes. Once you have it on hand, you’ll want to put it on everything. Letโ€™s get started!

  1. Whip Butter: Add the butter to a large bowl and whip with a hand mixture until pale and fluffy and no chunks remain.
  2. Add Remaining Ingredients, Adjust to Taste: Add the honey, cinnamon, and a pinch or two of salt. Mix until thoroughly combined, scraping down the sides and bottom of the bowl as needed. Taste and then add another pinch of salt, if desired.
  3. Store: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, or in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks.

Mix-Ins and Delicious Honey Butter Variations

Customize your homemade honey butter with a few of these simple flavor additions!

  • Maple Syrup:ย Use half honey and half maple syrup to add a depth of flavor to your honey butter.
  • Citrus: Try adding in lemon, orange, or key lime zest! You can also use a squeeze of fresh juice. It makes the honey butter light, bright, and perfect for spring and summer!
  • Chopped Nuts: Want to add some texture to your honey butter? Try mixing in some chopped walnuts, pecans, or slivered almonds.

How to Store Leftover Honey Butter

  • Refrigerate: Whether to refrigerate butter or not is a hot topic, and everyone seems to have a different opinion on it. Honey butter will last longer if it’s refrigerated, so thatโ€™s what I recommend! In an airtight container, it will stay good for four weeks in the fridge or one week at room temperature.
  • Room Temperature: If it has been in the fridge, I like to let it come to room temperature first so itโ€™s soft and spreadable!

Try It With These Recipes!

You can use honey butter to top toast, pancakes, waffles, biscuits, and anything else you can dream up. It’s so good you might just eat it with a spoon!

This is my new favorite gift along with my walnut bread. Can I freeze this? Thinking of putting in ice cube trays to freeze.

  2. In your recipe alteration for larger amount, you call for only 2 sticks butter in each. Is this what you meant? Although I have not made any yet, your recipe looked so simple! I plan to make a batch this weekend. Looks delicious!

I tried this recipe with Country Crock plant butter made with avocado oil and at the last minute decided to add cinnamon- IT IS SO GOOD! It tastes like texas roadhouse butter. I’m making it ahead for feast week next week so there’s one less thing to do. It’s stored now in an old glass peanut butter jar and it looks so pretty. Will definitely make again, thank you for this recipe!
