Korean Ground Beef and Rice Bowls

Korean Ground Beef and Rice Bowls

This right here is my boy’s favorite weeknight meal. They beg me to make it every week. Since we have been so busy with Lacrosse, we have been having it every week. It requires minimal ingredients and little effort to make.

With minimal ingredients and big flavor, my kids devour it every time. The ground beef browns in minutes but still brings that classic Korean taste with brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger. I always have these simple ingredients on hand, so all I need is a pound of ground beef to make it happen. Serve it over rice, toss in some veggies, and top with sesame seeds and green onions for a quick, delicious dinner you’ll make again and again. If you love these flavors, try my Slow Cooker Korean BBQ Chicken next!

Love this! Easy and quick, it’s one of my staple recipes now! I add a 1/2 cup of water chestnuts for a little crunch.

  2. Thank you, this was delicious, I’ve made it several times and it’s a family favorite. It’s quick and easy. I added chopped carrots to get the veggies in and topped with Sriracha.

Hello, each time I have made this I wondered I found the recipe. Now I know and I Thank You!
As I have been ordered to cut way down on iron, I have been trying various add-ins. My fave so far, 75% dark/25% white ground turkey, purchased from my fave poultry stand.
As I must also gradually give up salt I headed to a local family owned Asian market. I was lead to an aisle deep in the store, instant panic! I had no idea how many variations of soy sauce. Grabbing the nice mans arm, 17 minutes later I left with Kikkoman extra rich/thick soy sauce with much less salt!! Also, 2 bags containing $40.00 in lots of great add-ins and more. Nice man was a great salesman!!raf

  5. We’ve loved this recipes, so much so that my boyfriend went to the store the next day and bought all the stuff for me to make a double batch for dinner again. I have so many ideas using this recipe as a base. Add water chestnuts, shredded carrots, chow mein noodles and Bibb lettuce leaves for yummy lettuce wraps. Mix the garlic and ginger into the meat and make meatballs simmered in the delicious sauce. It’s so versatile that you can use beef, turkey (this is what I used) or chicken and change around the veggies: snow peas, edamame, broccoli, carrots etc. It was awesome with sticky rice but I will also change it up with rice noodles and jasmine rice. You could make endless combinations!

May I use fresh ginger? I buy the tube stuff so I always have it on hand. If yes fo I increase the amount or is ground preferred in this particular recipe? Cant wait to try it!

  8. I cant wait to try this! My daughter is allergic to sesame and peanuts. Do you have any suggestions that could boost the flavor profile since I will need to exchange the sesame oil?

I love this dish. I mix the rice in the pot after I’ve mixed the sauce in rather than pouring over rice. My son loves it as well.

Tried this tonight for dinner. I was a little skeptical of this recipe, but I love trying new things. I cut the sugar down to 1/8 cup and left out the red pepper. When finished, the sesame oil was just a bit overpowering (for my personal taste). But, I steamed some broccoli and baby carrots, tossed them in and magic happened! Will definitely try this again! Thank you!

  11. Really delicious recipe! I wanted some veggies in it so I added chuncks of bell pepper, onion, shredded carrots and topped it with green onions and cilantro. Turned out really good. will be added to my recipe rotation and so easy to make!

I make something similar with ground pork, but add a bag of broccoli slaw with the cooked pork and let it soften then add my sauce and serve over riced cauliflower. Makes for an awesome, easy and veggie laden meal.

    1. Oh yeah, I forgot to saym, I got the idea for my recipe from I Wash You Dry…a recipe she published back in Sept, of 2018…hers is almost identical to this.
