Korean Ground Beef and Rice Bowls

This right here is my boys favorite weeknight meal. They beg me to make it every week. Since we have been so busy with Lacrosse we have been having it every week. It requires minimal ingredients and requires little effort to make.

Easy, minimal ingredients, and my kids devour it. This meal became my new BFF.

The ground beef takes only minutes to brown but you still get that delicious Korean flavor in this meal. The brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger combination is the best.

It helps take the flavor to next level with the simple kitchen ingredients. The best part is that because we love Asian flavors so much I always have these ingredients on hand. All I have to do is buy a pound of ground beef each week.

You guys are going to love this meal just as much as we do! It is so delicious when served over rice and I even like to add some veggies to my bowl to make it a well rounded meal.

Sprinkle with some sesame seeds and freshly chopped green onions and you have about the easiest meal that you will ever make! You will make this again and again!

  1. I don’t have ginger and don’t have time to go out and get it. Any suggestions to replacing or simply leaving it out? Thanks.

  2. This is very similar to bulgogi. If you allow the seasoning to marinate overnight, you will love it. Koreans use think sliced ribeye, rather than ground beef. I also recommend adding some onions and shredded carrots.

    1. That is great! I have never heard of that but it sounds great! I will have to try it that way! Thanks for sharing! XOXO

  3. I always love this recipe! Thank you.. can’t remember how many times i’ve made this.. i can eat this anytime! Simple yet so flavourful.

This was a great weeknight recipe. Easy tasty and easily modified. I added carrots and mushrooms to the beef when i added the sauce.(i had a ton of key limes so i added a squeeze of lime juice to the sauce because we like a little acidity) On top I garnished with a little crystalized ginger and a handful of water cress as well as the sesame and green onion . It was great to find a new use for ground beef…and i think this recipe would be awesome with almost any protein option. Thanks for sharing!!
PS…I would give it 5 stars but I cant get the fifth star to highlight

    1. That is SO great to hear! Thank you so much for sharing all your additions and substitutions. I love your idea! I will have to remember this for the future. Thanks so much! XOXO

I found this recipe looking for ground beef recipes even though I was using ground turkey. My hubs LOVED it. I stir fried cabbage, mushrooms, carrots, and onions with some soy sauce and then added it to the turkey after both were finished cooking. I also used fresh ginger because that is what I had on hand, I also added some of that fresh ginger to the rice in the rice maker as well. I was unsure about the turkey but my husband said if I hadn’t told him he would of never known it was turkey. Thank you for the delicious new recipe.

  6. I need to know the calories, carbs, fats and proteins in this recipe for a serving. At least in the meat and I can figure out the rice.

Delicious recipe! What I like to do is take a head of butter lettuce and spoon in the beef and rice mixture to make a wrap. So good!

I’ve made this about 5 times now, the whole family loves it! I put carrots in and go heavy on the spices and liquids. It’s very good! . I even make a vegetarian version (for dad) with beans that tastes really good!

Made this recipe as is and it was good. Having said that next time I will add in some veggies and a little more sauce. This was quick and easy though. My family all ate it but agreed it was a little flat on flavor. Thanks for sharing your recipes ?

    1. That is awesome to hear! I am so happy you loved it and next time can make it your own. I love the veggie idea!! Thanks so much for sharing! XOXO

  11. This has become one of our favorite meals! My husband and I ad a drop of chili oil to our bowls since the lids don’t like it as spicy. This always requires a double batch. Thanks!!

  12. Made this for dinner tonight, but I used honey instead of brown sugar. Also added carrots and red peppers. It was delicious!! Will definitely make it again!
