Sorry this is a question not a comment. A question from someone who doesn’t cook but wants to start ๐
The recipe calls for 1/2 pound of bacon. Ok this is going to sound stupid, but is that cooked? What does that look like 1/ 2 pound of bacon. Again I am not a cook so this is a real question, please go easy on me ๐
Hello!! 1/2 pound bacon uncooked! Typically bacon is sold in 1 lb (16 ounce) packages, so you will use half of a package (8 ounces).
I made this recipe for a graduation party and it was a hit. The only thing I did different was reduce the brown sugar by half. That is the only change. It was delicious. Thank you for the recipe. It is my first time making baked beans from scratch. I will definitely use this recipe again.
What can be used in place of the molasses??
I would try honey instead!
I made these, had them covered in water for about 18 hours. Then did everything as the recipe says but the beans do not feel soft and cooked. Will keeping them in oven longer than 2 hours make them done?
Did you make sure to boil the beans in water and then let them simmer for an hour? This is the step where they should be tender. Baking them in the oven longer won’t help that.
I am diabetic and I was wondering if there was a substitute for the brown sugar?
You are welcome to leave it out but it does add the most flavor creating the best results for these baked beans.
The product is good, the recipe is not. It says the total time, including prep, is 2hr 30min, however, the beans have to soak for 12 hr and the beans have to cook for 1hr. Plus the baking time and minus the soaking time (I understand why she wouldn’t include soaking into prep, but I think it should at least be included in the total time so people can see the ACTUAL time), that’s 3hr. The 3hr doesn’t include prep. It also doesn’t say to put a lid on the beans and only says to bring to a boil, in both cases, I had to put a lid on the beans and bring the beans to a rolling boil. Lastly, the recipe doesn’t always include how intense you would want the flame to be.
Just made these and they were quite tasty. A little too sweet for us, so I think i will cut down on the brown sugar and molasses next time. Will definitely make them again with a little tweaking!
This is the second time making these and our family and friends love, it is a no fail recipe!
Very good recipe! It looks very tasty! I will try this tonight!
This looks absolutely delicious!!! Wondering if this recipe is suitable for slow cooking via crockpot.
What a fabulous recipe! So easy and tasty! Iโll definitely be making this one again!
Iโm so very excited to try this. I love baked beans from scratch. My great grandma used to make them.
great walk through of baked beans from scratch, a good reminder since it’s been so long since I’ve made them, I rely way too much on some kind of pre-made processed versions of these since legumes are a regular part of my diet, so thank you
