Korean Ground Beef and Rice Bowls

Korean Ground Beef and Rice Bowls

This right here is my boy’s favorite weeknight meal. They beg me to make it every week. Since we have been so busy with Lacrosse, we have been having it every week. It requires minimal ingredients and little effort to make.

With minimal ingredients and big flavor, my kids devour it every time. The ground beef browns in minutes but still brings that classic Korean taste with brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger. I always have these simple ingredients on hand, so all I need is a pound of ground beef to make it happen. Serve it over rice, toss in some veggies, and top with sesame seeds and green onions for a quick, delicious dinner you’ll make again and again. If you love these flavors, try my Slow Cooker Korean BBQ Chicken next!

  1. wonder if I could serve with zucchini noodles instead of rice?
Trying to cut those pesky carbs, you know!

I love this recipe! it is so good. I’ve also made it with ground chicken and it turned out delicious. Although I pair it with rice sometimes, I also love to put it in a green onion pancake (you can find them frozen at an asian store) i add veggies to it lettuce, cucumber and coriander with hoisin sauce eaten like a taco. It is so yummy, quick and easy to make!

  3. I made this on the recommendation of my married daughter. I added thinly sliced carrots to the ground beef and would have liked more veggies, but my pantry was pretty empty. My husband took one bite of the dish and said: “I don’t know what this is, but it’s sure good.” I appreciate how simple it was to prepare, and I will be making it again. Thanks for sharing the yummy recipe.

This was such a good meal! Super easy to make and we already had all the ingredients on hand. My husband and 4 year-old loved it. It’s now in our regular rotation.

So good – thank you. Added sliced mushrooms, onion, snow peas, shredded carrot. Hits the spot when looking for ground beef/ground chuck alternatives to the same old same old. If you have more ground beef / ground chuck recipes for a little something different, I would love it if you would post them to your web-site!

    1. I used plain sesame oil for this recipe but either one will taste great! Which ever one you prefer! Thank you for following along with me! XOXO

Fantastic fast and easy dish! Picky eaters- husband and 11 year old approved! I used a quinoa blend, added a little white rice, French cut green beans and a shredded carrot for veggies. I’d love to add water chestnuts or broccoli for some crunch but then I’d be eating it alone, Haha.

I made this one night because it sounded so easy and it is. I had to use 2lb because I have 4 kids so I doubled the recipe and made steamed broccoli and add topped their bowls everyone loved it so much we are making it again tonight but have to use 3lb because everyone wanted more lol. Also I was in Korea for 2years and this taste authentic thanks

  9. So delicious! I added a touch of salt, half a lime and more red pepper since my husband and I like it spicy and it turned out super good! The sauce was a little too sesame-y at first but that touch of lime really helped balance it out. I served it over rice that had carrots, peas, soy sauce, salt and sesame oil mixed in. Will definitely be making again.

Great recipe! Just made it for dinner tonight and my picky eater even ate it! I used regular soy sauce and added a broccoli and a red bell pepper, also added an extra clove of garlic. The recipe made enough to feed my family of 5 with a little leftover. I will definitely be making this again. Thank you.

  11. This looks so yummy! I’m a pathetic cook, though, so I have a question. At what point would one add veggies if desired? Would you stir-fry it in with the meat halfway through or keep them separate?

    1. That is a great idea! I would add the veggies at the very end and either seperating them or adding them to the stir fry is great! Enjoy! I can’t wait to hear how it turns out! XOXO

This was awesome. I made it healthier by using low sodium soy. Also substited stevia for the sugar. Stirfried a bag of broccoli slaw in sesame oil. Added meat mixture and cooked brown rice. So much flavor for just a few ingredients.
