Korean Ground Beef and Rice Bowls
This right here is my boy’s favorite weeknight meal. They beg me to make it every week. Since we have been so busy with Lacrosse, we have been having it every week. It requires minimal ingredients and little effort to make.
With minimal ingredients and big flavor, my kids devour it every time. The ground beef browns in minutes but still brings that classic Korean taste with brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger. I always have these simple ingredients on hand, so all I need is a pound of ground beef to make it happen. Serve it over rice, toss in some veggies, and top with sesame seeds and green onions for a quick, delicious dinner you’ll make again and again. How do you make Korean Ground Beef and Rice Bowls?
- In a large skillet cook the ground beef and garlic breaking it into crumbles over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain the grease.
- In a small bowl whisk brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, red pepper flakes and pepper. Pour over the ground beef and let simmer for another minute or two.
- Serve over hot rice and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

What temperature should ground beef be cooked to?
The interior of a raw hamburger usually does contain bacteria, and is safest if cooked well done. The USDA sets the minimum safe temperature for ground beef at 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
Can you make this with chicken?
Yes! This is a great chicken flavor as well. Sauté your chicken with all the ingredients. Cook until it is no longer pink.

I was looking for a good recipe for hamburger and rice cause that’s what I had and we’re on disability.
When I found this it was perfect cause I had all the spices, I just had to borrow some garlic from my neighbor. I can’t even explain how easy and quick this recipe is my GF was so happy. The flavors are amazing. Instead of crushed red peppers, I used a Korean hot sauce and the next time I used siracha sauce and its all just amazing.
You can use other meats too. I’ve used frozen sweet bar-b-que chicken strips. Also fresh fish, but if you’re going to use raw fish, don’t use fresh water fish. You only want to use salt water fish because fresh water fish has parasites that ocean fish don’t have. However smoked and steamed trout goes really good with this.
So be creative with this and you’ll have some memorable dishes. Just remember to write down what you used in the recipes. Have a great time and good eating
Delicious!!! Made it for 10 people.
This is an excellent recipe due to the fact that it’s delicious and so easy to cook. I despise cooking, but this was a breeze to make. I omitted the ginger since I’m not a fan and I substituted Cayenne for the red pepper flakes. My picky husband, son, and I all gobbled it up!
Easy recipes are the best, especially when the whole family likes them. Thanks for giving the recipe a try, Jennifer!
Love this recipe. Thank you
I found this recipe a couple of months ago and my daughter has asked for it at least three times! It’s our new family go to recipe!
My girls love it too! Thanks for trying it!
I served this with coconut rice and it was fantastic! Both my husband and 11 year old loved it.
We have a ton of burger meat so I stumbled across this recipe. My daughter loves rice but hates hamburger meat. This is the first recipe that she actually liked hamburger meat! It will be added to our weeknight dinner rotation. Thank you!
My picky eaters love it too! Thanks for giving the recipe a try!
This is so good and easy!! My family requests this often, it is so good! I’m going to try it in lettuce cups!
Glad you like it! It would be great in lettuce wraps!
I made this with 1/2 lb Hamburg…as only two of us. Really tasty! Thank you for sharing! We will make this again, often!
I make this once a week. My family loves it. I add a tsp or so of peanut butter to it. Really good recipe! I recommend it to everyone.
Very good recipe. I used fresh ginger instead of powder and gochujang chili flakes. I used a dark soy sauce which is more sweet than salty. Will add some julienne carrots next time as I do intend to make this again. I served this on a bed a jasmine rice. Thank you for the recipe!
YUM! What a great idea!
I just made this, really simple and tasty. I think this will be great with ground chicken or turkey. Red bell pepper, diced mushrooms and water chestnuts would also be good but I love that this recipe requires minimal ingredients.Very similar to Chef Martin Yan’s chicken lettuce cup recipe. I like this with white rice but my husband likes to wrap with lettuce. Will definitely make this again. Thank you!
Wow, this was good! And judging from the other comments, it also makes a perfect “base” to add your preferred seasonings and veggies to! (Although Marc-ing it with gochujang and hoisin sauce sounds a bit salty to me…)
Can’t wait to try more of your creations!
Do you actually mean powdered ginger?
That’s the same thing as ground ginge. It tastes so delicious in this recipe!
Any substitutions for soy sauce?
You could try using tamari, Worcestershire sauce or teriyaki sauce instead!
I used coconut aminos as a healthier substitute.
This is really good! We added carrots and water chestnuts just to add more to the meal. Next time we are going to put the mixture into lettuce wraps.Quick and easy is what I was looking for at this was!!!
This was so easy and yummy. I doubled the sauce and added a half a bag of cole slaw cabbage and carrots. I didnt have green onions, so i garnished with French fried onions. I will reduce sugar a little bit next time. But soooo easy and sooo good!
