I just had to post my favorite alfredo recipe that I have created here on the blog.   There are a few secret ingredients that set it apart from all of the rest.  If there is one thing I can always count on my family to eat it is my homemade alfredo sauce over pasta.  We recently had some company over for dinner and I made these Chicken Bacon Garlic Alfredo Roll Ups and they always are a huge hit!

This alfredo sauce is thick and creamy and the flavor is out of the world.  It is restaurant quality that you can make right at home.  It has delicious garlic flavor and italian seasonings.  I like to add cream cheese to my alfredo for that extra creamy flavor and texture.  This alfredo sauce always gets raved about whenever I make it!

This alfredo sauce comes together pretty easily and you will never go back to the jarred alfredo sauce again!  Ick!  This alfredo sauce is awesome on top of just about any pasta but is also delicious used as a dip or even spread on pizza.

I think this sauce is even better than any restaurant that I have been to and the best part is that you can make it yourself!   It is thick, creamy, and rich and the perfect sauce on top of your favorite pasta.

Ingredients
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 pint heavy whipping cream (2 cups)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • ½ teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup grated parmesan cheese
Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan add butter, heavy whipping cream, and cream cheese. Cook over medium heat and whisk until melted. Add the minced garlic, garlic powder, italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Continue to whisk until smooth. Add the grated parmesan cheese.
  2. Bring to a simmer and continue to cook for about 3-5 minutes or until it starts to thicken. Toss it with your favorite pasta!

      I wouldn’t call myself a lover of Alfredo. In fact, most of the recipes I’ve tried, I don’t really care for, even the canned stuff. But I like to pretend I cook like the Olive Garden – since there isn’t one remotely close- And dip breadsticks in alfredo… so I tried this recipe. IT. IS. AMAAAAZING!! WOW! Absolutely incredible!! Love it! If I had this all the time I might say I like Alfredo Sauce!

      I stopped liking Alfredo since I moved away from NY. And the store stuff wasn’t remotely near it. But this honey! Added a little Goya sazon with portabello and shataki mushroom sauté chicken. Add the sauce with Noddle’s . I’m not missing home as much anymore. Now I just gotta find the perfect pizza lol!

  4. This looks like it makes about 3 cups of sauce. There are only 2 of us. How long and in which way should I keep it? Alfredo is my husband’s favourite but I wouldn’t want to serve it too too often. Do you think it would freeze or should I just cut down the recipe amounts?

  7. I noticed that in one pic the sauce is in a jar (the one with the wooden spoon)….Can you make this ahead and keep it in the fridge? I live alone and one of my main problems is recipes are usually made for two or four…Cutting them down to a one-person recipe is—interesting to say the least…LOL

    • I actually just received a comment that said they freeze it and it works great! I think that you would be fine leaving it in the fridge for up to a week. If it starts to separate, just whisk it and heat it on the stove. 🙂

    The title of the recipe says it all…This is hands-down the BEST alfredo sauce recipe! My whole family loved it. I don’t think I’ll ever try another recipe, this is perfect. My only tip is to be sure to use freshly grated Parmesan; it melts much more smoothly than the kind in the jar.

  11. This is definitely the best alfredo recipe. I absolutely love Olive Garden’s Fettuccini Alfredo, and guess what? This stuff tastes just like it!!!! SCORE! Looking at the other recipes on her FB page, they all look great too!

  12. This was a big hit with my husband and me. I had to improvise a bit, and use what I had on hand, but it was still delicious! I used whipped cream cheese, garlic powder, and grated Parmesan cheese from the canister. I can only imagine if I had used the real stuff! Thank you! This recipe is a keeper!

  19. If you make a double batch and put in refrig. How will it last? When you reheat the sauce will stay smooth?

  20. I followed the recipe closely and all I can think is, it tastes like cream cheese. Won’t ever put cream cheese in Alfredo again. Marscapone cheese Might be a better choice if you want an extra-creamy sauce.

      Marscapone is a sweet cheese, so if you like that flavor you can try it. By adding all the other cheese and spices it should take care of the cream cheese flavor.

  25. Oh yeah, great stuff I halted the ingrediates for two people, only change was 1/4 tsp of nutmeg. Made it twice and it’s off the charts. Very rich.

    This is the most awesome Alfredo sauce that I have ever had or made. I followed the recipe and it was perfect. I am making lobster ravioli for a baby shower and needed a good Alfredo sauce.     • Heavy whipping cream is what you would use to whip cream. It is in a container by the milk. 🙂

  28. Just made it ,and it tastes wonderful. Beats every Alfredo sauce I ever bought from the grocery store by far. Very easy to make , tastes delicious and I might even have enough to refrigerate for tomorrow. I also used a bit more Parmesan,, just because we are big cheese lovers. This is highly recommended recipe,,and look no further. Simply delicious.

  29. Yum! I mixed some homemade pesto into this sauce instead of the Italian seasoning (we need to cut the salt) WOW you have to try it, the basil and garlic compliments it. We served mixed with grilled chicken, cherry tomatoes and lightly cooked our zoodles right in the sauce so they soaked up that flavor.. the kids devoured it, so no lunch leftovers for me and they don’t even like zucchini!   32. I just made this Alfredo sauce and it was the best Alfredo sauce I’ve ever tasted and very easy to make. The only ingredient I didn’t use was garlic powder because I didn’t have any on hand so I just added a little extra of finely minced garlic and it came out perfect! Thanks for this recipe, it will be the only Alfredo recipe I ever make again.

    I always made my Alfredo sauce but never added the cream cheese to it. I did it and it was so good. I also added sliced mushrooms to add a little chunk and boy was it delicious! 😍 Thank you for showing me a different way.

  35. I understand that 16 fluid ounces makes 1 pint in the US. Here in England it’s 20 fluid ounces to a pint. I love your recipes and think it might be a good idea to list the pint in fluid ounces or the recipe would turn out wrong if we used the English measurements.     I could not believe how delicious this sauce was!! I used it in a casserole with linguini, cut-up chicken, broccoli, bacon and mushrooms. I would hold it up against any Alfredo dish I’ve had in a restaurant!! A definite repeat!!

    Looking forward to making this! I was just diagnosed with Celiac Disease so I can no longer order in restaurants. I can only have use rice pasta but at least I can still have Chicken with Alfredo sauce at home now, thanks!

  39. I would love to make this but I don’t use the heavy cream and don’t even know what to buy. Maybe u can advise me.

    • Half and half will work, also milk will work. It just won’t be as creamy and thick. You may have to use a roux to help thicken it up.

  44. I made the sauce for dinner tonight. I doubled the recipe and used fresh garlic and fresh oregano instead of Italian seasoning, it was truly amazing. I also splurged to use fresh grated Parmesan ……yummy. Well worth it. I wasn’t sure the original recipe amount would feed my family of six, but after doubling it, I have some extra sauce for another meal. Thank you for this delicious recipe.

    • you can purchase this in any supermarket. it has oregano, basil, pepper marjoram etc. lots of italian spices. easier to buy than to make.

    I read in a comment somewhere that this yields approx. 2 cups of sauce. If I were to use a 16oz box of pasta, is this sufficient? Or should I plan on doubling the recipe? My family tends to like things a little saucier rather than drier, if that helps at all..

  58. I’ll be honest, this was not the BEST Alfredo sauce, too thick. I’d probably cut the cream cheese in half, and the Italian seasoning and would add a LOT more black pepper. Or just nix the cream cheese altogether.

    • I am sorry it didn’t turn out. I think this is the first comment that didn’t rave about the recipe. I am not sure what went wrong. This recipe is actually pretty thick and should have coated the noodles perfectly.

  83. I made this a few weeks ago. My husband wasn’t home from work yet, so i kept it simmering and it eventually separated (the butter and cream) i guess from cooking so long. I tasted it before it did though it was delicious. I want to make sure if i make leftovers for his lunch the next day will it do that if he heats it in the microwave?

  93. This recipe is legit… No other way to say it… I have tried several variations of Alfredo sauces and this one is now the family favorite… Thank you for sharing! Only thing I changed was to simmer the sauce longer to thicken it up just a bit more but this is a winner!

    I also add garlic salt, oregano leaves, cilantro, cayenne pepper, and black pepper. I substituted the garlic power for garlic salt.
    These extra seasonings enhanced the flavor a lot and made it taste absolutely delicious 😋. I have never tasted something so yummy! Hope that this helps your cooking :). Ps. the cayenne pepper definelty enhances the flavor without giving your sauce too much spice.

    I absolutely love this recipe! I added some extra seasonings to give it that enhanced flavor. Including: garlic salt (substitute for garlic power), cayenne pepper, black pepper, oregano leaves and cilantro. I hope these seasonings help a bit. It truly enhances the alfredo sauce recipe. Ps the cayenne pepper really gives the sauce extra flavor without being spicy. Hope this helps:).

  96. I made this last night (cut recipe in half) and I had to take a spatula to the saucepan to get out every last drop for my hubby haha…It was really great! I did have to add about half a cup of milk towards the end to thin it out a bit but that was probably just a personal preference thing.     So delicious & easy! I bought all ingredients, but didn’t make right away, so my parmesean cheese went bad. I substituted a chedder blend I had in the fridge and it turned out great! Served with grilled chicken & onions over fettuccine. No more canned for me!

  111. I tried this recipe…very tasty. The only problem that I had was that it separated on me. Mostly my fault, I have a new stove and am getting used to it. It was very simple the only thing that I will do next time is have my spices ready to just drop in as to monitor the sauce as it warms. Perfect for the two of us and leaves some for leftovers.

    I didn’t use cream cheese, but added more whipping cream. ..then once that bubbled a few minutes and started to thicken, I added more cheese (stirred constantly). I gotta say, this came out just as good as Red Robin’s when they still had it on their menu. 2 thumbs up…

  125. really yummy, and definitely beats making alfredo with a roux base. I used half n half instead of heavy cream and used less of it to up the cheese to liquid ratio. Also skipped the italian seasoning and used parsley in it’s place, added a little paprika and freshly grated parmesan and romano. I’m not a fan of italian food, but I am a fan of all cheese and this hit the spot. Thanks!

Sounded great, but a little too fatty (I love healthy fats, but the proportion in this recipe just seemed too high in combo with the butter, which I though would end up being hard to digest)…so I just used 3/4 cup heavy cream and substituted milk for the rest of the cream. Also used a little less butter than the recipe.

    Smelled wonderful with all the spices, and tasted great! Nice and simple, too, so much faster than the white sauce I often make for pasta dishes. Thanks!

  141. This alfredo sauce was amazing! It probably made enough to have covered a whole box (16oz) of noodles but I left some noodles out because my son likes to eat them plain. Will definitely make again!

    I followed the recipe but I used all organic ingredients and added a little chopped italian parsley and oooooooooooh my goodness. So good! Yum yum yum! I’ll never eat alfredo from a jar again.

  143. Thank you so much for this fantastic recipe….i made it last night adding chunks of chicken, spinach and muchrooms. Since its only 2 of us i didn’t use the entire box of pasta which left it plenty saucy which is how I like it. Not ashamed to admit, I also had plenty of spoonfuls! Definitely in the “what’s for dinner” rotation. Can’t wait to try some of your other recipes.
