How do you make Creamy Grape Salad?

It won’t take you long to whip this creamy, delicious grape salad. Have your kids help you make this so they are more willing to try it. You know they will love it after one bite!

  1. Beat: In a large mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese and sour cream until smooth. Add sugar and vanilla until blended.
  2. Stir and Chill: Add grapes, then toss to coat. Refrigerate until serving.
  3. Serve: Top with brown sugar and pecans right before serving.

Creamy Grape Salad Tips and Variations

There are only a few ingredients but we can change things up to suit your tastes and use what you have on hand. Here are some tips to get you started.

  • Substitutions: You can whip together cream cheese and Cool Whip to make a lighter texture.
  • Softened Cream Cheese: Make sure your cream cheese is softened (room temperature is best), or your mixture will be lumpy.
  • Low-Fat Options: You can lighten the recipe using plain Greek yogurt, vanilla yogurt or low fat cream cheese instead of sour cream and whole-fat cream cheese.
  • Can You Cut Grapes in Half? That is a great idea and best for little ones. This will prevent a choking hazard and make it an easier bite for everyone.
  • Toppings: Don’t add the brown sugar and nuts until you serve. They will get mushy, and the sugar will melt. You can use walnuts, almonds, cashews, or any nut you have on hand.

How to Properly Store Creamy Grape Salad

  • Serve Chilled: Grape salad tastes best when it is chilled. It is best to keep it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve. You will want to add the brown sugar and pecans right before serving.
  • Don’t Freeze: You will NOT want to freeze this salad. It will not thaw well.

  1. I love this salad. But the calories for it ..YIKES !!! I guess I better be careful next time how much I do eat of it.

  2. This reminds me of something I tasted at an RV potluck. There was a huge platter of fruit surrounding a bowl of white stuff. It was blended marshmallow fluff and cream cheese, so delicious!

  3. Does the creamy pea salad and the grape salad have as many calories as noted? I hope so as I am 79 lbs and if I don’t start gaining the doctors are talking about a feeding tube, I am 76 and don’t want to have to do that so I am trying to find as many high calorie, high fat, recepes I can find that I will eat. If u have more I would love to have them. Thank you so much.

    1. I like to use myfitnesspal.com for any nutritional information. That will help you find some high fat recipes too. Hope that helps and good luck!

  4. When I make this grape salad I just use red seedless grapes 3 1/2 lbs. Instead of regular cream cheese I use strawberry cream cheese and instead of vanilla extract I use 5-6 drops of almond extract ( a must). Until you taste this you will never use any other recipe. Absolutely delicious!!!!!!

  5. My grandmother always made this at Thanksgiving. It was called Busy salad. They would put us kids at a table and have us peel the grapes. It kept us busy and out of the way.

Love this recipe. It is a hit every time I serve it. They don’t just come back for seconds.

      1. Laura I think the graham crackers would get too mushy!! You need something crispy with this
        salad!!

  7. When I make this one I put the brown sugar on the night before, then when you serve it the next day add the pecans the brown sugar crystallized and it’s like a crem brule

  8. Ohh I love this idea! I think I would use yogurt instead of sour cream since I’m not a fan, but regardless, I am definitely going to try this sometime. Pinned!

I love this salad. For a little different twist drizzle with a little salted caramel sauce. Sometimes I replace the the grapes with apples. I really like seeing all the recipes you post. It’s one of my favorite sites. I wish you good luck on the recipes you try and fitting it all into busy days and nights with a little one.
