Shrimp scampi is such a classic and delicious meal so I decided to give it a go.  I don’t like shrimp and let me tell you.  I LOVED this meal! This meal starts out with so many of my favorite flavors.  You first cook the shrimp in a butter lemon garlic sauce.  Is there even a better flavor combination that that?  I love shrimp because it seriously only takes minutes to cook.  You then top it with a parmesan herb bread crumb topping and broil the shrimp for a couple of minutes to get nice and crispy. If you love shrimp then Sticky Honey Garlic Butter Shrimp, Lemon Garlic Parmesan Shrimp Pasta or Baked Coconut Shrimp are some of my go-to recipes for you to try!

Lemon Garlic Shrimp Scampi

So here is a little known fact about me.  I do not like shrimp.  Like at all.  But I really have never given it a chance.  I used to hate salmon and now it is my favorite thing to order.  My hubby on the other hand loves shrimp.  He is always asking me to make shrimp for dinner.  So I usually compromise and make shrimp a couple of times a month. It has worked out for both of us! The best part is adding the pasta to the shrimp and it gets coated in the buttery lemon garlic sauce.  It is to die for.

Basically.  If you don’t like shrimp you have got to give this recipe a try!  I couldn’t even believe how much I loved this meal!  All of the flavors are incredible and the crispy parmesan bread crumb coating on the shrimp is unbelievable good!   You guys are going to love this meal and you can create a restaurant quality meal right at home!

How do you make Lemon Garlic Shrimp Scampi?

  • In a 10 inch skillet, saute garlic in butter and oil for 1-2 minutes. Add the shrimp, lemon juice, and pepper. Cook and stir until the shrimp turn pink.
  • Combine pepper, oregano, parmesan cheese, bread crumbs and parsley in a small bowl. Sprinkle on top of the shrimp and broil for 2-3 minutes until it starts to brown. Serve with hot pasta.

What types of pasta can be made with Lemon Garlic Shrimp Scampi?

  • Linguini is the recommended pasta for shrimp scampi. The noodles are not too thick and are capable of locking in the creamy sauce and flavors while enjoying the lighter side of a noodle. The cream compliments the noodle and the shrimps tender meat. When serving a linguine pasta you will want to use less pasta on each plate. This will leave the focus on the shrimp and sauce and bring out those bold flavors.
  • Angel Hair  is a very light pasta. It is a thin strand of pasta that is great for shrimp scampi. It holds in the great flavors from the lemon garlic sauce.
  • Vermicelli is lighter than angel hair and very delicate. If you are looking for a lighter dish, this pasta is the best one for that. You will not need as much sauce with vermicelli.

What Can I serve with Lemon Garlic Shrimp Scampi?

Lemon Garlic Shrimp Scampi is a meal all in itself. You can enjoy it with pasta and have your dish complete. If you are looking to add on to your meal and enjoy a few other sides to go along with it I would recommend a salad, bread and/or a savory dish that blends well with the shrimp scampi. A good salad with light flavors but unique textures and vegetables are a great side salad. Thick, rich garlic bread or subtle breadsticks are great to have while eating your Lemon Shrimp Scampi meal along with a light side that pairs well and blends all the flavors together. Enjoy these suggested three sides to go along with your Lemon Garlic Shrimp Scampi!

  1. Unlike you, I have always loved shrimp, but a bad experience with shrimp scampi made me avoid it. The scampi in question contained way too many capers. I like this recipe. You may have helped me become friends with shrimp scampi again.

  2. Made this recipe as written and it turned out awesome. My only complaint is nowhere on here does it say how many servings. Thank goodness I cut it in half since it was just me and hubby. Still had leftovers. I’m just saying-
cause I hate to waste food and my hubby doesn’t do leftovers. Good thing I don’t mind them. Please revise recipe to indicate servings.

  3. Ok so I made this tonight, and then quickly realized I probably did something wrong. I am assuming you take the shrimp out of the pan and put it on the sheet and then sprinkle the Parmesan mix?? The directions didn’t state wether or not to do that.

  4. I made this recipe and appreciated how tasty and easy it was. However, I was confused about the pepper: in step one, the recipe says to add the pepper with the lemon juice and shrimp. In step two it says to combine the pepper with the herbs, cheese and breadcrumbs. There was no indication in the ingredients that the 1/2 teaspoon of pepper should be divided. Perhaps you could clarify what is the intended amount and in which step(s) it should be added? Thank you.

While I liked it, I guess my question is whether you are taking the shrimp out of the sauce to put it under the broiler. It would appear you do not by your directions but I could have. After there was no browning several minutes later I removed it from the oven, dug the shrimp out trying to keep the breading on and put it back under the broiler. This also gave me the opportunity to throw the linguine in the sauce to coat. I added a little wine and extra garlic.

  6. This shrimp pasta looks wonderful. I’d like to serve it for a dinner party. One question:; I am allergic to seafood, could I also prepare chicken the same as the shrimp for those who are allergic or don’t care for shrimp?

    1. I have never made it with chicken but it should work about the same. The flavor of the chicken may be different compared to the shrimp but all in all it should taste really good:)! Let me know how it turns out! XOXO

What an absolutely well-written article accompanying your recipe ! I felt the same way about Salmon, and now it’s the only fish I’ll order. Don’t forget to mention, to your husband, how lucky he got when you said ‘Yes’ …

    1. Oh wow! Thank you so much! Thank you for this sweet comment. I am so glad that you like fish now. It is one that I do love and am so happy for it! Thanks for following along with me! XOXO

  8. Cannnot wait to try the Scampi – but need to now how many people does that feed. I might need more if having company. Many thanks for all the awesome recipes. Always excellent.

  9. Made this last night- a truely awesome meal! As it didn’t state how many it was for, I just cooked enough pasta for two but made the rest of the recipe as stated. When adding the Parmesan crumb mixture I didn’t brown it, but just let it melt and mix over the prawns. No leftovers and a three tick meal from me and my husband, so definitely on the make again list👏😊
