Ingredients to Make Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits
Making copycat Red Lobster Cheddar Bay biscuits only requires a few simple ingredients! I love that I can recreate the amazing flavor and texture of these biscuits with just pantry staples.
Biscuits
- All-Purpose Flour: All-purpose flour works great because it gives your biscuits a nice, fluffy structure.
- Sugar: Adding a bit of sugar to your biscuit dough balances the flavor.
- Baking Powder: For a biscuit that is airy and flaky, baking powder is key!
- Garlic Powder: Garlic is a must for that perfect savory flavor in your Red Lobster cheddar bay biscuits!
- Salt: Enhances the overall flavor.
- Buttermilk: Buttermilk is what makes these biscuits so rich and soft! You can use storebought, but I always like making mine from scratch! It’s super easy!
- Butter: I use unsalted butter in my biscuit dough. Since we’re adding salt and garlic powder, I don’t want my butter to make the biscuits too salty.
- Cheddar Cheese: Shredded cheddar cheese is going to give your biscuits the most amazing flavor because it’s perfectly savory and sharp.
Garlic Butter Topping
- Butter: Melted butter is the base for the garlic butter topping. Tastes great, too!
- Garlic Powder: A little garlic powder brushed on top of your biscuits makes all the difference because each bite is packed with flavor!
- Fresh Parsley: Finely chopped parsley is the perfect aromatic finishing touch. It adds a hint of peppery, fresh flavor.
Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits Recipe
Making these copycat Red Lobster cheddar bay biscuits is beyond easy! Only 10 minutes of prep and 10 minutes in the oven! You’ll have warm, tasty biscuits in no time at all.
- Preheat Oven/ Combine Flour Mixture: Preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Then, in a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, and salt.
- Whisk the Buttermilk Mixture and Mix the Dough/ Fold in Cheese: Whisk together the melted butter and buttermilk. Combine with the flour mixture until incorporated. The dough will be thick. Then, fold in the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Form Biscuits: Next, measure each biscuit using a 1/4 cup measuring cup. The measuring cup works great for packing the dough and forming the biscuit. It also shapes them and makes them the same size.
- Bake/ Brush on Butter Topping: Bake for 10-12 minutes in preheated oven until golden brown. Last, combine the garlic butter topping ingredients then brush onto each biscuit.
Biscuit Tips and Tricks
Here are my suggestions for customizing your cheddar bay biscuits to perfection! You are going to absolutely love these! My family can never get enough of them.
- Cheese: Cheddar is a classic addition to this recipe, but you can mix and match other cheeses to your liking! I love switching these up with fresh parmesan or gouda. For a little kick, add shredded pepper jack!
- Additional Flavors: If you want a bit of heat in your biscuits, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to your dough! And if you love fresh herbs like me, then add a little Italian seasoning to your butter glaze!
- How to Serve Cheddar Biscuits: These tasty biscuits work well as a side for anything. For a complete meal, serve these biscuits with your favorite pasta, grilled salmon, and a side salad!
Storing Leftover Biscuits
These buttery cheddar bay biscuits are perfect for storing, reheating, and freezing for the perfect anytime snack!
- At Room Temperature: This is my preferred way of storing them. Keep your biscuits in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic wrap for 3-4 days.
- To Reheat: Pop individual biscuits in the microwave for 10-15 second intervals until warm. For bigger batches, wrap biscuits in foil, place on a baking sheet, and warm at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 5-10 minutes.
- In the Freezer: Both unbaked and baked rolls can be frozen. Keep in an airtight container for up to 3 months.

Just made them tonight. So good!
This is so good! I tried it then they love it, so I have to bake it again for the 2nd time. Thanks for sharing.
I gotta try your other recipes here too.
Keep it up!๐
Flavor is great it just flattened and turned out way to fluffy more like a cake instead of a biscuit but will try to revamp it to try again
These are so good! I used whole wheat flour instead, and I didn’t do the final butter garlic topping (mostly because I was impatient and wanted to sample right away!), but it was still SO AMAZING. Freezing some for future use! YUM! Thank you.
Yay! I’m so glad that you loved them!
I don’t get. I’ve tried this recipe twice and both times the biscuit flat and raw inside.
Oh no! I’m so sorry that they didn’t turn out for you!! These are different, not cheddar but you should try them instead. Butter Swim Biscuits They are so good!
Did you add the full amount of liquid ingredients? Or slowly add? I didnโt use the full amount of wet ingredients but rather added as the dough came together. Better luck next time. Cheers.
This biscuit recipe is absolutely amazing. It’s even better than red lobster’s. Our family gobbled them up. Thank you
Wow, what a great recipe. They taste exactly like the Red Lobster ones. Will definitely be making again.
Made these first time. I too added the cheese for a toss in the flour mixture. I was left with 1/3 cup liquid mixture that I didnโt use. Not sure if itโs because Iโm high elevation or not. I added the liquid a bit at a time. Not all at once. Saved the dough from being wet and droopy. Overall, great recipe that I will make again.
I make these frequently and they are delicious. I add the cayenne pepper and other than that the only thing I do differently is to toss the shredded cheese with the dry ingredients before adding the milk and butter to distribute it evenly. Kneading biscuit dough toughens it. Also scoop the completed dough with an ice cream scoop. Easy and delicious.
I am gonna try it! Yemmyyyyyyy
Thanks for sharing this lovely recipe
These look amazing and easy to make. Canโt wait to try the recipe!
Can you make your dough and refrigerate it for a day and then bake them with still having good results?
These look so good in your recipe. Things changed when I made them. Following the recipe, as is, the biscuits ended up flattening when baking and don’t taste even close to Red Lobster’s. They’re more like soft, chewy cheddar cookies.
Oh wow. Something obviously went wrong here. Every time we make them they turn out like a biscuit and people think they are from red lobster. Sorry it didn’t turn out. ๐
Hi Alyssa! These look amazing and better than the real deal! ๐ Can’t wait to try the recipe! Pinning! ๐
So then you did use baking powder? It’s not listed in the ingredients which is why I’m wondering. If you did, how much? By the way, I love you recipes!! Every one I have tried turns out perfect!!
Add it in with the dry ingredients. I will change it to make it more specific. ๐
How much baking powder did you use?
I used 1 Tablespoon and 2 teaspoons garlic powder…. sorry just fixed that!
the recipe says 1 TBSP
Hey…you don’t use baking powder in this? This is the first recipe without it that I have seen. Can you please confirm?
I used baking powder. They were fantastic so I wouldn’t change a thing. ๐
But baking powder is not listed in the ingredient list above…..
Sorry I just fixed that! It is 1 Tablespoon baking powder.
Yeah I noticed that too but figured you’d be called out on it and fix it. LOL
Could you clarify in the recipe ingredients there is no baking powder or soda listed as an ingredient there is Garlic powder but not baking powder. you said you used baking powder so I am now confused.
Thank you so much for catching that! It is 1 Tablespoon baking powder and 2 teaspoons garlic powder! Thank you! ๐
Can’t wait to try this! But what’s buttermilk? And where is it found usually?
Buttermilk is found by the milk. Usually by the heavy whipping creams and half and half.
You can create buttermilk. Google ‘how to create buttermilk’ you need milk and vinegar.
You can also get powered buttermilk—it stores for a longer period of time. If you use Bisquick or Jiffy mix, you can leave out the baking powder. My family LOVES these.
