Seriously, you can stop buying the packets from the store and save yourself money and time with this Italian dressing mix. It is quick and simple to make and you will be using it more than you realize!

  • Sugar: You may be tempted to leave the sugar out, but don’t. It is there to balance the acidity of the vinegar that it is often mixed with for dressing. It is there for a reason.
  • Customizable: The best thing about making your own, is you can customize it to your liking. Add a bit more or a bit less of certain herbs as you desire.
  • Make it Zesty: When a recipe calls for a Zesty Italian Dressing, you can still use this mix. Just add a few pinches of red pepper flakes.
  • Garlicky: If you like it garlic heavy add dried garlic to the mix as well for that extra kick of flavor.
  • Store: Keep your Italian dressing mix in a glass jar that has a tight-fitting lid. Be sure to label it so you know what it is. This will keep for up to 6 months when kept in a cool dry place.

How to Use Italian Dressing Mix

Besides making your own incredible Italian dressing with this mix, it has lots of uses. Keep in mind this is different from Italian Seasoning which is made up of just five herbs and does not have sugar in it. I would not recommend substituting one for the other, as they are designed for very specific recipes and taste different. You can use this mix however whenever you come across Italian dressing Mix in a recipe.  It can be used in Pasta salads, sprinkled on vegetables, used as a seasoning for potatoes, chicken, and beef. Let your imagination and taste buds be your guide. Here are some recipes to get you started.

While this looks like the packaged dressing mix, I am not finding the how-tos for mixing it for a salad dressing. Maybe you could modify this posting to include how much oil, vinegar and water, etc. Thanks.

    1. It’s closer to 2 packets. If you have a food scale, you can weigh it to be sure. ☺️ One packet is 0.7oz (19g)

  2. How much of this seasoning do you combine with what an amount of vinegar & oil?
In your OG dressing recipe, you say 1 packet of OG salad dressing mix or this homemade seasoning. However, what is the equivalent of the homemade recipe to one packet of the commercial seasoning packet? Thanks

  3. Use the whole spice mix recipe for a single batch of salad dressing? Or just a portion of it? It seems like a lot.
    Thank you!

  4. There is no liquid ingredients in this recipe. Mayo, olive oil or something these ingredients must be added to to make it a dressing. I am guessing olive oil but how much?

    1. Hi Rhonda, this recipe is just for the seasoning mix. I like to use it as an all-purpose seasoning for savory dishes!
You can find my recipe for Italian dressing (with all the liquid ingredients) here!.

  5. In your recipe for Italian dressing mix you call for 1 teaspoon garlic but the picture does not look like there is grated garlic. So are you using garlic powder instead?

Back to the question about the garlic which was never answered directly
Is it garlic powder or garlic salt used
      Thanks

  6. No worries, I found the information I needed from another site. I don’t know why some of the recipes on this site are not more forthcoming with the specifics of a recipe or their origin for that matter.

  7. In your home made ranch seasoning mix you said to put 3 T = 1 packet of ranch mix. Would this work for the Italian mix packet and use 3 T of your dry mix? Then use your Olive Garden Salad Dressing Copycat recipe? Thanks for your hellp. I enjoy using your recipes.

    1. You don’t need the ranch seasoning for hte Olive Garden salad dressing recipe. But yes to the Italian mix packet question. Use 3 tablespoons for the dressing.

  8. Hi, Just wondering if this whole recipe equals a packet of store-bought Italian dressing mix. looking forward to trying it, but not sure how much to add. Thank you.

  9. Is this equal to one packet of the store bought mix? I would love to try this along with your Italian dressing recipe. Thanks in advance.

  10. Maybe a dumb question – but if I wanted to make salad dressing from this, how much seasoning, other ingredients & quantities (oil, vinegar, etc). Help a girl out!
