Iโ€™m not saying Iโ€™ve eaten half a loaf of this Garlic Bread straight off the baking sheetโ€ฆbut Iโ€™m also not not saying that. Itโ€™s golden, cheesy, dripping with garlicky butter, and so good!

A Reader’s Review

Wow! I just made this to go with dinner and it was amazing! Best garlic bread I’ve ever had! I’ll be making this again.

Why This Garlic Bread Rules

  • Garlic in Every Nook and Cranny: I smother this bread in buttery garlic goodness from edge to edgeโ€”just the way I like it!
  • Real Butter, Real Love: I skip the margarine and slather on the real, melty butterโ€”because nothing beats the real deal.
  • Parmesan + Herbs: Parmesan crisps up into golden perfection with just the right blend of two kinds of garlic and my secret ingredient, Italian seasoning.

Ingredients Needed

Overhead shot of labeled ingredients.
  • French Bread: The best bread to make garlic bread is a crusty loaf like French bread or a baguette. Soft loaves can become soggy.
  • Butter: I like to use salted butter (it adds great flavor!). Take it out early and soften it to room temperature, so it’s easier to mix and spread!
  • Parmesan Cheese: Freshly grated parmesan cheese melts the best and tastes divine!

How to Make Homemade Garlic Bread

This garlic bread recipe comes together in under 20 minutesโ€”and itโ€™s so tasty, youโ€™ll want it on repeat! Keep this one handy, because youโ€™ll be craving it again and again.

  1. Prep the Loaf: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut the French bread in half lengthwise, separating the top from the bottom, and place them, cut side face up, on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. Make the Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, add the softened butter,ย garlic powder,ย minced fresh garlic, Italian seasoning, andย parmesan cheese. Mix to combine.
  3. Spread and Bake: Spread the butter mixture evenly on the cut sides of each half of the bread. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the butter is melted and a perfect golden brown. If desired, broil for 1-2 minutes for a crispier top. Sprinkle the top withย fresh parsley for garnishย if desired, and serve fresh.

Do I Need to Use Foil?

  • Yesโ€”if you want soft, tender garlic bread. Just wrap it in foil before baking to lock in moisture and skip the crispy edges.
  • No foil? Expect golden, toasty perfection with a little crunch and melty cheese on top. Pick your vibe and bake accordingly!

How to Store Leftover Garlic Bread

If you make enough, you can have some for tomorrowโ€™s dinner as well! Here is how you can easily store it and reheat it when you are ready!ย

  • At Room Temp:ย Garlic bread is best stored at room temperature. If itโ€™s stored in the fridge, it can become hard and stale. It will stay good, wrapped tightly on your counter for 1-2 days.ย
  • To Reheat:ย Wrap the garlic bread in aluminum foil and place it in your oven at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until itโ€™s heated through.
  • Garlic Butter Mixture: You can make the butter mixture and keep it in the refrigerator or freezer for up to 2 months. Soften it to room temperature when you are ready to use it.

I’ve tried lots of garlic bread recipes but none worked well. This one knocked both me and my guests out. Just perfect first try.

I made this (my first time making garlic bread) and it was SO delicious. Used baguette slices I had frozen, which worked perfectly. I cannot recommend this recipe enough

this recipe was a huge hit. Had company over and decided to make this up with roast beef. I didn’t have Italian seasoning but I did have individual Thyme, Oregano and basil so added those in and the flavour was amazing. This will now be my go too recipe for garlic bread.

I sliced it before putting it in the oven (and only buttered one side). Haven’t baked it yet but just snuck a piece before baking and omg it’s already heavenlyyyyy. (Used freshly home baked french bread)

We love garlic bread. Eat it for many meals. Could this butter be made ahead and froze for those days you don’t have much time?

    1. Great idea! You can store the garlic butter in an airtight container and store it for up to 3 months in your freezer.
