My family can all agree on one thing as a side for dinner.  Garlic Bread.  Garlic Bread is such a delicious and easy side to make and one of the fastest things to go.  I love to make a homemade garlic bread spread.  It only takes a few minutes to mix it all together and it is perfectly toasted and the perfect addition to any meal.

How do you make the best garlic bread?

  • Slice a French bread loaf in half lengthwise and make your garlic bread spread.
  • Add softened butter, minced garlic, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and grated parmesan cheese to a small bowl and mix together.
  • Spread evenly on each side of the bread.
  • Bake the bread at 400 degrees for 12-14 minutes until toasted and lightly brown on top.

How do you make garlic bread spread?

  • Add 1/2 cup softened butter to a small bowl.  Add in 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 3 garlic cloves, minced, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, and 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese.

Can I use fresh herbs in the spread?

Absolutely.  Replace the dried herbs with fresh herbs and use a teaspoon of each.

Do I need to wrap my garlic bread in foil?

If you want your bread to not be as crispy on the outside you can wrap your bread in foil.  It will be more soft on the inside, just make sure the butter is completely melted inside.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 1/2 cup salted butter softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • fresh chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut your French bread loaf lengthwise and place on top of a baking sheet.
  2. In a small bowl combine softened butter, garlic powder, minced garlic, Italian seasoning and shredded cheese. Spread evenly on each side of the garlic bread.
  3. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes until butter is melted an bubbly. You can also broil the top for 1-2 minutes at the end to give it a more crisp top.
  4. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if desired.

  1. Since my son and I can’t eat a whole loaf of bread by ourselves, can I bake half and freeze the other half (without baking) for later with the spread on it? This sounds delicious!

    1. I bake several loaves, half them, let them cool completely, wrap in foil, place in a plastic bag and freeze. They freeze really well! Reheat gently.


  2. The best garlic bread is not a great enough description for how good this bread is! I made it for a group dinner. 5 adults and 2 kids, everyone loved it! It’s just as good the next day if you reheat it in the microwave. I had made double, so I still have some left and it’s ridiculously hard not to finish it all right now!

  3. This garlic bread has a different flavor from the store bought kind. But different in a good way! More herby. Felt like it could use just a little more oomf’ then it’d be perfect.

  4. I am going to make this bread with a homemade lasagna but wanted to double check..it says “spread evenly on each side of the bread”, does this mean the top of each half..or both sides of each half?

  5. This was delicious! I didn’t have any cheese on hand and didn’t want to go to the store so I just did without–it was still wonderful! I want to go eat the last two pieces now!

  6. Please send me specific baking directions. Are both sides placed on a baking sheet butter side up and baked open faced for the 12 minutes.
