Grilled Honey Balsamic Chicken

Just four more days. I only have four more to go until this little girl gets here. The last part seems the longest! I have spent the day nesting and I am trying to get everything ready as much as I can in these last few days.

I still feel like I have so much to do and get our hospital bags packed. But you can only so much when you are this close to the end. So I think I will sit down with my feet up and write this post. With some Dove chocolates of course. 😉

I love easy to grill recipes with great flavor. I wanted to make something that would taste amazing and that my kids would also enjoy.

I have made a similar honey balsamic pork recipe that is hands down my favorite. So I decided to marinade the sauce in some chicken and throw it on the BBQ! The chicken was cooked to tender perfection, and the glaze was to die for. This recipe was a huge success!

Chicken Breast and marinate combined to show chicken marinating in the sauce

How do you make Grilled Honey Balsamic Chicken?

  • In a ziplock bag, add chicken, olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika, and onion powder. Make sure the chicken is completely coated in the seasonings.
  • In a small mixing bowl, whisk together honey, balsamic vinegar, ketchup, and garlic. Pour half of the sauce into the bag and let marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Grill your chicken on each side about 3-4 minutes or until no longer pink.
  • Place reserved sauce in a small saucepan and allow to deglaze for 2-3 minutes over medium high heat. Brush sauce on top of chicken.

What temperature is chicken cooked to?

The safe internal temperature for cooked chicken is 165° Fahrenheit (75° Celsius). A meat or instant-read thermometer is your best bet for determining the temperature of your chicken. Insert into the thickest part of the chicken breast for the most accurate reading.

Can you bake this in the oven?

Yes! If you do not have a grill, this will bake well in the oven. After marinating, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place chicken on a pre-lined baking sheet or lightly spray the baking sheet. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.

Can you make Grilled Honey Balsamic Chicken ahead of time?

Yes! This is great to combined and marinate overnight until cooking. The longer it is marinated the more rich flavors and tender the chicken will be!

Can you substitute thighs for chicken breasts?

Yes! This will be a great substitute. Continue with the same recipe with chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts!

ThIs is such a tasty recipe for the effort you put in! I was afraid to grill by myself but I got one of those small bags of charcoal that burns instantly,,all you have to do is light the paper, wait for the coals to get just right, I pushed them to the back of the grill, put my marinated chicken in the front and turned them around until the correct temp, then served with pride.
I used local honey, chicken from a local poultry farmer and veggies for my table from a local farmer. Delicious. We supported local economy and I knew the origin of my food. Which is becoming more and more important!

Wow ❤️ Thanks for sharing! I cut each chicken breast in half so didn’t have a lot of extra marinade. On step 4 I added about 1 teaspoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of BBQ sauce then let it reduce. It was a amazing cooked on our BBQ with a side salad and corn.

  4. This recipe was outstanding. I did it with boneless skinless thighs. Also I doubled the sauce for marinade then made more for glazing.

I hate chicken with a passion, however chicken is all we had to cook so I looked up a recipe and found this one. I made up all the chicken we had figuring I could eat something else and everyone could have this for two days. Well my daughter got full and couldn’t finish her food and wasting food is one thing we don’t do, since it was only two bites left I didn’t put it in a refrigerator so I ate it.after tasting it I find myself today having to figure out something else for dinner, but I ate all that chicken last night. Oh my it was great.

  6. Am going to definitely try this. Can this be marinated then frozen for later date? Also can it be frozen after cooked and heated up somehow to have meal prepared for later.

This was VERY good. Marinated most of the day then grilled it. It was very tasty and juicy. I ate it on a salad. Will be making this again and again. Thanks for the awesome recipe.

My fiance and I really enjoyed this! I will definitely make it again. I used all of the marinade for the chicken and made a little bowl of sauce for dipping (basically just half the sauce recipe). I marinaded 4 small chicken breast for about an hour and a half. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
