Tips for Cooking with an Instant Pot

Seriously, trust me when I say that using an instant pot for your recipes is simple! I have put together a few of the most helpful things to know when cooking instant pot recipes. So go ahead, try it out! You will be so happy that you did!

  • Quick release: This has to do with when you let the pressure out of your instant pot. A quick release means that you take action by switching the lock over and allowing the pressure to escape. Don’t worry, a hissing sound when you release it on your own is normal!!
  • Natural release: Some recipes call for a natural release which allows your food to cook and warm up a little longer. This means you let the instant pot slowly release all of the pressure on its own. You don’t have to do anything! If the pressure lever is all the way down, it’s done and safe to open the pot!
  • Lock it up: Once you lock the lid into place, it will be locked until it is safe to open. Its totally safe to use!
  • Size: Instant pots come in a couple of different sizes. I recommend getting one on the larger size (6 qt or 8 qt). This will be large enough for family sized meals!
