Fajita Seasoning Ingredients:

All together these spices make the perfect combination and just what a fajita is needing to spice up, sweeten up and enhance every bite. I can’t get enough of how easy it is to mix together and keep on hand for months to come when using. Just double the recipe and add a tablespoon here and there when needed. It is one of the best, most flavorful seasonings out there.

  • Chili Powder: A pop of spice is always good when enjoying a fajita.
  • Paprika: Red is the color and it is flavorful with a hint of sweetness mixed with some heat.
  • Cumin: Earthy flavoring that blends well with paprika.
  • Garlic Powder: You can never have enough garlic.
  • Onion Powder: Bring in some onion flavoring to enhance this flavoring.
  • Dried Oregano: Texture is key with oregano and fun to add in this homemade seasoning.
  • Salt: Just a pinch to balance it out.
  • Sugar: Add a little sweetness to the seasoning.
  • Cayenne Pepper: A little more spice to help add to the seasoning.

How to Make Fajita Seasoning:

  1. Combine all ingredients together: In a small together combine the ingredients.  Use as needed, about 2 Tablespoons per recipe.

All the seasonings placed in separate bowls.

How Long Does Fajita Seasoning Last?

This is SO great! Fajita seasoning will last up to 6 months stored in a dry place. Keep your homemade seasoning in a cool, dry place and in an air tight container. Be set for life with this seasoning recipe. Add to every fajita recipe and get ready for a party in your mouth!

How to Store Seasoning:

I always store in a cool dry area in the pantry or a shelf in the kitchen that does not get too warm. This will help keep it fresh longer. A jar or OXO container can help to store it. Even double or triple this homemade seasoning to keep on hand and always ready when making fajitas.

I made this recipe but made it just as good and more healthy. Many people should NOT have much salt or sugar in their diet. I omitted the sugar and Salt. Tastes just as good (!I made both to check).
It cuts the sodium and fat, though it was not much to begin with, really no need to add fat or sodium. I used it on Veggies Fajitas, meatless, and served in fresh homemade corn tortillas, it was outstanding.
I know most people have way to much sugar, salt and yes, meat in their diets and eventually find themselves with heart and artery problems. This is a great way to enjoy fajitas without worrying.

  3. Hi,
    Thanks for your recipe.

What’s the difference between chili powder and cayenne?

I just ran across your recipe and it sounds wonderful. I have a question and a comment.
Would you recommend regular paprika or smoked paprika?
Most fajita seasonings I have seen have a bit of citrus in them.
As luck would have it I have a box of little envelopes of lime juice powder.
I think this will be perfect to add as it is a dry ingredient and will not affect storage of this recipe.

    1. I used regular paprika but you could use smoked. It would bring a different flavor to the seasoning. I have never tried adding in lime juice powder. Let me know how it turns out!

I loved the recipe but thought it needed a bit of lime so I squeezed the juice from one into it. I also added some water to really get the spices distributed on the chicken. I will make this again.

My husband can’t eat garlic, so much of our seasonings are from scratch. When I’m making chicken fajitas with 2 tbls. Of fajita meaning do I also add water?

Went to make fajitas & didn’t have the packaged mix, found your site, I tried your recipe, I will never go back to store bought again. I love being able to control the amount of salt in my seasonings, & for my husband, when he likes things spicier, he can always just add more to his.
    Great recipe, definately a keeper.
